We often took trips out of Baalbeck, especially on Fridays, as it was a day off and people enjoyed picnics in the countryside, long walks, spending time with friends or family.
On this occasion, myself and all my friends who worked together as tailors, decided to celebrate the Workers’ Day hunting for birds in Wardin area. This was a men’s day out. We listened to music, ate food we cooked ourselves, drunk arak, danced, and hunted. It didn’t matter that we didn’t get any birds at the end. Days like this were about being together. We let go of our worries and troubles so we could face them again. Despite haziness of some of the pictures, I have very clear memories of jokes we played on each other and the lightness of being, as we felt united by love and friendship. (Text by Diab Alkarssifi)
