Passport style, formal, studio portraits – so familiar in their assumed functions and a uniformity of form, and yet, given a perspective of time and distance; they offer a glimpse into a kaleidoscope of different cultures, social classes, echos of political divisions, changing influences on men’s fashion, and many more different histories that framed their lives over the different decades of the 20th century.

With gratitude to family, friends, and other contributors who have entrusted Diab Alkarssifi with the custody of their archives.
