Miss Universe 1971, Georgina Rizk was the first Lebanese woman to be given the ultimate beauty crown. She was born in Beirut to a Lebanese father and Italian mother. Her first husband, Ali Hassan Salameh, was a prominent Palestinian politician, member of the famous paramilitary Black September Organisation, a cell of FATAH party. He was identified as one of key members of The Munich Massacre in 1972. He was killed seven years later, in 1979, in Beirut by Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad. Later, Georgina married a famous Arab singer, Walid Tawfik with whom she still lives in Lebanon.
When she visited Baalbeck in 1977, she had only been married to Salameh for few months. Even though she had won her crown few years before, her popularity was very strong and she was admired by men and women. She has remained a celebrity to this day.
