Diab Alkarssifi. “Why Wait? The Day And Night Before The Royal Wedding. Central London, 2011” Photography and Text

No one could escape to notice the great excitement and displays of British national pride that proceeded and accompanied the Royal Wedding.  I was interested in the displays of anticipation of this event; I wanted to take photos of the ordinary people… Why wait for such a long time, even sleep in the streets, to see the Royal Wedding?   People who were there made jokes, they wanted to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family of course, they wanted to show their friends that they were there, they wanted to document it for their own family albums, they all wanted to be part of something bigger, witnessing and participating in a historical event that became part of their own story.  The old and the young, people from so many countries country, journalists, the police, the traders of souvenirs and refreshments, even the pets were out there.

it was a great day in the lives of the British almost as great as the day Diana married Charles, but nonetheless an awesome experience for the new generation…
